Happy Birthday Henrik

Thank you for our special ice cream snack today!!!!

Apple Party

We had a very busy Friday as we celebrated the letter A with an apple party.
We started the day off with a story about a little boy who was tired of playing with all his toys and wanted a new adventure. The little boy asked is mommy if she knew of something fun for him to do and she replied, "I want you to find a round red house with no windows and doors and a star inside." The little boy had never heard of such a thing but was intrigued by the request and went off to find the house. At the end of the story the little boy finds himself in an apple orchard and discovers that the apple was the answer to his mommy's  riddle.
A red round house with no windows no doors AND

A STAR inside!!!!!!!

After the story our class had a taste test with red and green apples. . . We discovered that 10 of our classmates liked the red apples and 12 of our classmates liked the green apples. Make sure to look for our awesome apple graph next week; Mrs. Bailey will be sure to put it up in the hallway.

For a special apple snack we also made applesauce from all the apples you guys brought from home; it was delicious!!!!!!

Here's how we did it if you want to make it at home:
Cut & Peel about 10 large apples (we did almost 20)
Place chopped apples in crockpot - put on high
Add 1/2 cup to 1 cup water or apple juice
Stir and Smash as they cook
Add sugar and cinnamon to taste

Enjoy!

A REAL little red hen!!!!!!!

Mrs. Tasa from PPCD brought her red hen to school today for a visit and it was awesome!!!!
Her name is Henny Penny and she lives in Mrs. Tasa's backyard.
She makes one egg every day . . . The brown eggs are from Henny Penny
Her body is different from ours because she is a bird
She feels very soft
Her comb feels kind of like rubber
Look! She is talking to us!!!!

Awesome Day :) thanks Mrs. Tasa

Circle vs Sphere

Today we got to use our knowledge about Cindy the Circle and compare circles to spheres!!! Mrs. Michelle helped Mrs. Bailey do a sorting activity with the class because poor Mrs. Bailey lost her voice.
Each time an object was pulled out of the box the class had to decide if it was a circle or a sphere
Great sorting!!!!

Can you find circles and spheres around your house? I bet you can :)

Making Dough!!!!!

Today we acted out the story of The Little Red Hen and made bread dough!!!!!
These were Mrs. Bailey's puppets but everyone is going to make their own set in center time :) when your child brings home their set ask them to retell the story for you.

In our story the Little Red Hen mixes all the ingredients and kneads the dough before baking the bread, so we thought we would give it a try.
First it's really messy
And you have to mix and knead it for a long time
But then it starts to stick together and form a ball
Yay!!!!
Check out all of our creations!!! Way to go guys :)

The Little Red Hen

We have been reading a great story titled The Little Red Hen. The kiddos have been exploring the characters (the cat, goose, dog and hen) and their roles in the story. Ask your child to retell the story for you and explain why the little red hen had to teach her friends a lesson.

Today we made cornbread in class but my iPad was not cooperating . . . I'll make sure to get some pics tomorrow when the kids make their own dough!

Math Centers

Did you know that we have 6 math centers?!
A shape center where we can create and identify basic shapes . . .
A pattern center where we can create, extend, identify and name patterns . . .
A sorting center where we group things together because they are alike in some way . . .
A counting center where we work on one to one correspondence . . .
A fine motor center where we build finger strength . . .
AND
A number center where we explore what the numbers look like and what they symbolize.

WOW!!!! Our brains are surely getting smarter :)
